The Sleeve Enhancement Program

There are some patients that have already undergone the Sleeve Gastrectomy procedure but after a given amount of time are not completely satisfied with their weight loss or the unsuccessful resolution of some of their medical conditions such as Type 2 Diabetes, hyperlipidemia, sleep apnea or hypertension.

Dr. Minkin is now offering a solution for this called The Sleeve Enhancement or the Duodenal Loop Surgery (L-DS). You may have seen or heard it called the single-anastomosis duodenal switch or stomach intestinal pylorus sparing surgery (SIPS).

This is an upgraded, minimally invasive and far safer procedure than the original duodenal switch procedure (DS) also known as biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch (BPD-DS).

The new Loop duodenal switch is a simplified version of the old BPD-DS where a sleeve gastrectomy is followed by a single anastomosis of the ileum to the duodenum in a loop fashion. This procedure combines restriction and malabsorption resulting in the most powerful procedure we have to date. So as you can see a patient that has already had a sleeve gastrectomy is essentially “halfway there” to a loop duodenal switch. Therefore, the Sleeve Enhancement procedure would involve adding a single connection of the small intestine to the end of the sleeve in a laparoscopic procedure lasting less than an hour.

Dr. Minkin is dedicated to providing the best possible care and life –lasting results. If you’re interested in learning more about this procedure or whether or not you are a candidate- please call our office at (314)-965-8410 to schedule your consultation.
