“In 2016, I weighed 277 pounds.  I was pre-hypertensive and had severe sleep apnea. I tried to lose weight on my own by dieting and going to the gym but still struggled with the weight.  I made the decision to have the Gastric Sleeve done in 2016. This was the best decision that I ever made. It has changed my life tremendously.  I’m no longer considered pre-hypertensive and my sleep apnea has improved quite a bit. My current weight is 211 and it has been three years since surgery!  I keep pushing myself to continue with these positive life changes by continuing to stay active and eat healthy.  Dr. Minkin and his physician assistant are the best and are excellent at what they do. Again, this is the best decision I have ever made!”

“I struggled with my weight for my entire adult life. I tried every new fad diet that was out there, which always ended in my losing weight but then ultimately gaining it all back, plus more. I knew that I had to do something because the yoyo dieting was not healthy. My weight had gotten completely out of control and I didn’t know what to do, I felt hopeless. That is when I was introduced to the My New Self program and Dr. Minkin. I was very nervous to begin my journey but Dr. Minkin and his staff were so helpful in answering any and all questions or concerns that I had; they walked with me every step of the way and gave me all of the tools to be successful. Having weight loss surgery is a big decision but it is one I do not regret. As with anything in life, you have to put in the hard work to be successful. I diligently followed the after surgery plan that was laid out for me by Dr. Minkin and the My New Self dieticians and because of that I was able to lose the weight. It has been a year since I had my surgery and my life has changed in so many ways. I have so much more energy and I can do things that I was never able to do because of being so overweight. Having weight loss surgery is a tool to help you lose weight; I still watch my diet and exercise regularly but the rewards of my hard and dedication have been so worth it.”

“I researched the pros and cons of the gastric sleeve surgery for two years prior to making the decision that it was probably the only thing that would help me live a life I had forgotten about. I had struggled with weight gain and loss since high school. Nothing I seemed to do would last long and I would be right back to where I started. I am a nurse and it became more difficult for me to tell my patients about a healthy lifestyle when I was morbidly obese myself. At my heaviest of 354 pounds and two years of research later I made the decision that gastric sleeve surgery was the answer. I talked with Dr Minkin about what I had to do to qualify for the surgery. He spent a huge amount of time with me explaining everything all the way to two years post-surgery and what I could expect. I followed his advice and program up to the date of surgery, and felt comfortable with the decision I had made. Two years later going from a size 28 to a 14 and 354 pounds to 221 my life is always on the go. I love shopping for clothes because I get to go to normal stores, not just the plus size! I can keep up with my kids on hiking trails and take my dogs for walks without feeling like I am about to die. I am not tired every day all day and I love telling my story! I feel beautiful for the first time in a very long time. Having gastric sleeve surgery was by far the best decision I made to better my life. ”

“My wife had gastric sleeve surgery a year and a half before me. I watched her lose the weight and feel better about the way she looked. I finally convinced myself if she could do this I could too. My heaviest weight was 384 pounds and I did not enjoy hunting anymore, because it was difficult to get ready to go, then to walk through the woods, and no tree stand was going to hold me. I had went back and forth with my weight since childhood and nothing seemed to work for me to sustain weight loss. I had gastric sleeve surgery in December 2018 going in to surgery day I wore a size 56 pants, and now 10 months later I am in a 38! I am now at 231 pounds and the weight continues to gradually decrease. I can walk up and down hills through the woods without having to stop to catch my breath. I can climb with any tree stand because I am well below the max weight. Keeping up with my kids and my wife are no problem now and taking naps are a thing of the past. Between the two of us we have lost a total of 286 pounds and we could not be happier with choosing the healthier version of the both of us. ”

“Having decided to have bariatric surgery was one of my best decisions ever. I have two loving girls, and was suffering from high blood pressure and with back and knee pain. What made me go for the surgery was not only for my self image but for my health. Dr. Minkin and his team are very competent, they gave me all the support I needed both before and after the surgery to achieve my goals. Now I am healthy, happy and confident again.”
